It’s the “why” I do what I do. It’s the “why” I love what I do. It’s what I’ve always envisioned doing. Bringing to life all aspects of one’s, a client’s, a brand’s, a space’s, a retail environment’s, or my life to life… It is bringing to life their meaning or creating that story. Who is she or he? How do they think, or what do they think about, what do they read, what is their story? The thoughts, sounds, scents, movements, likes, dislikes, passions, intellect, hobbies, persona, every detail that makes an individual, brand, organization, group or space unique is what makes it special, what sets it apart and is the story that can be told in many dimensions. The visual world partnered with their unique brand story and brand extensions can communicate how they, we, move through life, who they are, what they live like, what they think like, what they smell like, what they listen to, what they believe in, what makes them unique, where they escape to, where their heart is, what their passions are, who they want to become. By connecting through multiple senses and intellect, the human experience receives the information in a more compelling, more meaningful and long-lasting way. Design your life, your brand, your space for you, fully and meaningfully for you, and in doing so you will be living and telling a rich and purposeful narrative.

 METHOD //

ADD ALL INGREDIENTS TO BLENDER AND BLEND UNTIL SMOOTH.

POUR MIXTURE INTO AN AIRTIGHT CONTAINER. FREEZE 1-2 HOURS.

REMOVE PINEAPPLE SORBET FROM FREEZE, POUR BACK INTO THE BLENDER, BLEND UNTIL SMOOTH.

POUR BACK INTO AIRTIGHT CONTAINER AND FREEZE OVERNIGHT.

Reading my mind has never been easier.

Buys One Tie-Dye Shirt

So let’s get to it… I have never owned or never thought of owning a tie-dye shirt until this Spring. It just wasn’t my thing… until I stumbled upon an icy sky blue cropped sweatshirt that was just everything a girl could want when sweatshirts were all that I was wearing during stay-at-home days. Flash forward, thanks to curiosity & a 1-day craft stint, I now own six pieces, which is probably over the legal limit. But regardless, let me show you how to break all fashion laws and cruise into Summer 2020 illegally.

I. Get your kit together. Ready-made kits are the way to go. I chose a four mini-kits from Michael’s; with names like Luau, Moody Blue and Paradise Punch, I had to take the plunge! Grab them here!

II. Choose your canvas & your palette. I like cotton or linen. Natural fibers take the dye best. I also chose a variety of tops; crewneck tee, v-neck tee, pocket tee, and a sweatshirt, all pieces I knew I could pair nicely with white bottoms for the summer months.

III. Your space. Find a space you won’t mind getting messy. I chose a yard space so I wasn’t worried about the clean-up or the mess!

IV. Tie it together. Rubber band your pieces. Pinch in the center & swirl, then band criss-cross or scrunch horizontally or vertically, then band or knot in fun places. Most kits come with instructions, so don’t fret, there are no wrong answers!

V. Add the dye. Non-pro tip: Put on your gloves first ;) Pick your colors for each piece & squeeze the dye on. Pick sections, pull apart the folds and get in there, leave white spaces, get creative. Feel free to color blend but be careful, too much can muddy the results. Don’t forget to flip the garment over!

VI. All set! Let sit for just a bit, but not long. Using a kit, I was able to unwrap my rubber bands pretty quickly and allow my pieces to semi- air-dry then run through a rinse-only cycle individually in the washing machine. I then run them through the dryer & voila!

Palm Springs is always a good idea. And well, when you mix in good friends, country music and pool parties, you have a recipe for a long weekend that is worth a re-visit year in, year out. Spring ‘20 may turn into Fall ‘20 this year but it doesn’t stop us from living out the memories or replaying the sounds of the season right now.

Kick back or kick the dust up.

White Represents Space

Space and time to think, reflect and do. Space to to exhale or space to initiate. Space to be or to thrive. Space to sit still or to move.

Time to pause or to execute. Time to be still or to flow. Time to be silent or to be heard.

White represents: Respect. Light. Hope. Optimism.

White is the sum of all colors. To me is the sum of all emotion, the sum of all expression.

It is a representation of all artistry. In art we find the beauty of expression in all forms of creativity; whether on the professional level or the artistry we perform in our daily lives. White is the sum of all, the sum of all expression.

White is a blank sheet. A new page waiting to be written; that story ready t be told. 

White is the expression of hope and optimism; the core of the human spirit. The confidence that this, too, will pass and together we will rise.

It is in this white space where we can create, innovate and be the solutions for what we wish tomorrow to be. It is white space; free of confines, full of possibilities, open for us to navigate and scribe new pathways.

This is my white space. A place to create, to express, and to share some of the things I love and discover. I thrive when creativity is flowing. I hope you find some of these pieces lift your spirit, bring joy, spark hope, keep us connected or simply shine optimism your way.

The White Album

When The Beatles made their The Beatles album dubbed “The White Album" it was an experimental period. Most of the songs for The Beatles were written during a transcendental meditation course. The retreat involved long periods of meditation, conceived by the band as a spiritual respite from all worldly endeavors – a chance, in John Lennon’s words, to "get away from everything”. We can always learn from history. During these times, I look to many sources in history to learn, inspire my spirit, and push my higher education. I keep internalizing the following narrative; while we haven’t chosen this path, we can choose our perspective. Much as a few months ago people thought my “WFH” situation was a luxury, it is now a mandate for many. While the struggles and realities we all face do not escape me, we can perhaps embrace that we have the opportunity or privilege to WFH safely. These small shifts in inner narratives can help our psyche and spirit and thusly shift and spark our initiative , creativity and productivity. I am eternally grateful to those who continue to work in essential business sectors to keep us all well, help those who are ailing, keep our communities safe, keep us fed and allow us all to WFH safely. 

With all that said, ultimately this album is meant to bring upbeat joy, fill some white space in your day, spark some white space creativity, and maybe break up your day and get your body moving.

coincidentally, The Beatles album also had a release date of November 22; which I have an affinity towards, albeit before my time.

While the psychology of us all is much more complex than that, at its core the human spirit champions hope and optimism. Next up I plan a deep dive into historical & new brands which separate themselves in the marketplace. Standing out doesn’t always equal success; some may be ahead of their time, carving out roadmaps for brands to come. As a brand development executive with a background in design, styling, branding and architecture, I hope to uncover some unique brand experiences that I am unaware of to date. Capitalizing on the pop cult fashion movement, DHL connected the dots between two seemingly polar opposite business sectors... thus rendering them the fashion industry’s go-to delivery service around the globe.

Layer in the best restaurants the Bahamas has to offer and aqua blue golf carts as the choice mode of transportation, this island escape WILL HAVE YOU wanting to move up the wedding date. And the cherry on top? The Ocean View. No, not the ocean view (yes, it’s beyond spectacular!) but The Ocean View, the quaint hotel that prides itself as a second home to its guests. An impeccably designed second home with a contemporary slant and Bahamian flavor, you’ll want to call it your first home.

You’ve seen the pics… crystal clear waters, every shade of blue, water-suspended grass-roof bungalows, stairs that head directly from your abode into the turquoise sea, and picturesque lighting for the perfect honeymoon album…need I say more? Ok I will! Charter a helicopter to take you around Mount Otemanu, go snorkeling at Coral Gardens with the most vibrant, colorful fish, bike the island at a leisurely, lovingly pace, book a jet ski tour for a fun rush of adrenaline, and if you care to let loose a little more head to Bloody Mary’s restaurant/bar in Vaitape. So need I say it? Book it.

SANTORINI, GREECE

A whitewashed cliff side city set against the Aegean Sea, Santorini may be one of the most picturesque landscapes in the world. While you’ll likely want to spend a great deal of your time on the beach (Kamari Beach is a must stop!), there is plenty to explore in Santorini! throw on that flowy dress and take your tanned skin to explore the paths, alleys and stairwells of Oia and Fira! (Fun tip: walk down the stairs to the Old Port, grab a drink, then take the cable car back up!). Hop on that scooter and go explore the red and black sand beaches, check out Akrotiri to visit wineries and boutiques, and book a catamaran sunset cruise. Have I convinced you yet? Well, Just paruse these luxury villas with perfect bird’s-eye views of the world famous Oia sunset for the ultimate arm twist. Bucket-list worthy.

VENICE, ITALY

Can you say “Amore”?! What says love more than a gondola ride through the Grand Canal as you sail past historical buildings? Swoon. A time old tradition that will forever mean romance, it shoots to the top 5! One of MY favorite insider tips is to set up a secret wine tour to discover the wine cellars only the locals know about… a heavy dose of chicchetti included, Saluti! And while you’re there, delight your eyes with masterpieces by the Venetian masters, indulge in gelato, and of course cruise (literally) over to the islands of Lido, Murano or Bruano!

ASPARAGUS RISOtTO

the festive holiday RECIPE that will WOW YOUR GUESTS. the RECIPE I STOLE FROM MY DAD AND CLAIM AS MY OWN. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, right?

INGREDIENTS //

1/2 BUNCH thin ASPARaGUS chopped 1/2 inch pieces

1 MEDIUM sweet ONION finely chopped

3 CUPS CHICKEN stock

1 1/2 CUPs ARBORIO RICE

1/2 CUP PARMESAN CHEESE grated

1 TBLSP OLIVE OIL

1 TBlSP BUTTER

splash of milk

SALT & PEPPER

METHOD //

IN medium SAute PAN heat chicken stock just shy of a boil.

In a large pot, saute onion in oil and butter until translucent.

add arborio rice. let rice absorb butter and oil.

add 1/3 of chicken stock. stir continuously.

as rice absorbs stock, add 2nd 1/3 of chicken stock. stir continuously.

add asparagus. stir.

add final 1/3 of chicken stock. stir.

when rice becomes al dente, add salt & pepper to taste, butter, milk, parmesan cheese. stir continuously.

voila!

serve & enjoy

1 VANILLA BEAN

1 CUP SHREDDED COCONUT

1 CUP SUGAR

OPTIONAL {BUT HIGHLY SUGGESTED} BOOZY TWIST:

1 CUP PINEAPPLE JUICE

1 CUP MALIBU RUM

METHOD //

IN SMALL SAUCE PAN COMBINE COCONUT CREAM & SUGAR, BRING TO A BOIL UNTIL SUGAR IS DISSOLVED, ABOUT 5 MIN.

POUR MIXTURE INTO HEATPROOF BOWL, REFRIGERATE UNTIL COOLED, ABOUT 15 MIN.

USING A SMALL PARING KNIFE, SPLIT THE VANILLA BEAN DOWN CENTER LENGTHWISE, SCRAPE VANILLA INTO THE COCONUT CREAM/SUGAR MIX.

ADD SHREDDED COCONUT {PINEAPPLE JUICE & MALIBU RUM}

POUR INTO 8 POPSICLE MOLDS, FREEZE UNTIL FROZEN.

It’s September and I couldn’t be happier! Tiffany & Co. is finally giving us a glimpse into the creative revamp that began last January with the announcement of Reed Krakoff as its new chief artistic officer. With a vision to connect with a younger audience and re-connect with the company’s ideals of creativity, passion and optimism with an eye for the modern, Krakoff is embracing and delivering a product line and marketing campaign capitalizing on “cool”, wit and personal expression with a nod to utilitarian high/low artistic expression. When you own a color, who needs a name. Krakoff is Thinking outside the {tiffany} box... and it is brilliant.

IT'S NOT HOW YOU START,

IT'S HOW YOU FINISH

Ok, that said, you have to start somewhere! Finishes are the key elements that will set the tone for your space and help define your style. They are truly the foundations upon which you will express your personal living style.... and they will be around for some time so careful thought, research and selection are key steps to designing a space you will love for years to come. So where/how do you start? 

1. Create: Mood Boards! Start gathering images you love. Whether it be digitally or tearing from mags, start collecting those photos that set your heart afire! Ask yourself, would i want to live in this space? If yes, pin it or tear it out! Start a Pinterest board or a home folder. Just tuck away your inspo for now, compiling as much as you can.

2. Evaluate / Edit: After you’ve gathered your inspiration pics, go back and review. Do you have that same flutter feeling and want to live there? No? Toss it! This is where you start to un-muddy the waters (as I call it). Over the weeks/months you have been compiling, you will notice more clarity around your choices. For some, it will be those initial pics as that is your gut and deep down desire... for others, it will be those pics from later in the hunt as you discover ideas you never imagined! This step will allow you to see familiar trends in your choices. Don’t be surprised if you still don’t know what you “love”, many times this step involves editing what you “don’t love” any more. Often when I ask people what they love they have no idea, but ask them what they don’t love and I get an overwhelming amount of information ie: “no yellow!”... which brings us to step 3...

3. Pass: As part of the discovery process I encourage clients to write down any/all trends or finishes that they simply don’t love. This is highly beneficial to you and your designer and will save you lots of time and energy. Don’t love dark cabinetry, write it down. Don’t love the color green, write it down. Hate the copper lighting fixture trend, write it down. Extracting every love and don’t love is actually a step often missed and often creates a roadblock when efficiently designing the space you will ultimately love.

4. Selection: Here we go! See a lot of wood accents in your photos? Start to zero in on what you love most... light finish, dark finish, natural knotty finish? See a lot of blue accents in the photos you’ve selected, start to identify if it’s more towards navy or more on the lighter side. These observations will help you edit even more and you will start to see your space come to life simply through visually imagining your space. This also helps create an informative road map for you and your designer and the process will prove efficient and fruitful!

5. Don’t worry: ... about the rest of the design. Focus on the finishes! They will set the stage and will allow the rest of the design process; furniture selection and accessorizing, to flow much more effortlessly and dare I say fun! After all, creating your space should be a joy!

What am i pining after this Autumn…you bet some forest green is included (pun intended). Who doesn’t love cozy sweaters, reasons to cuddle up, fall football and all those treasured pastimes that come with the leaves falling ever so gently to the ground. To celebrate the coming chill in the air, i'm highlighting what to chase down and stuff into your closets…just smush ‘em in there.

BIKER JACKET

Ok i know you have a black one… but here’s where we I start pining… Forest Green. GIMMIE. Super hot. Super sexy. Super have-to-have. Trust me, I still love the sleek all black look, but throw this twist in the mix for a high fashion head fake. Bounce a gold watch and gold chained handbag off that puppy and bam, count it. Super fresh. Check out this green velvet baby. * faints *

STRUCTURED FEMININE WOVEN

A beautiful, intricately detailed structured feminine woven paired back to sexy skinny jeans, a killer heel and oversized sunnies just does it all for fall. Take this baby to brunch, lunch, dinner or drinks…she’s game for it all. She feminine, she’s rock, she’s boss, she’s sexy, she’s classy. i'm kind of describing her like the Dos Equis Man as a woman… yeah, that’s exactly it. She’s THAT good.

BOYFRIEND CARDIGAN

Truth be told, when I was 16 I used to steal my dad’s cashmere sweaters and then neatly put them back before he knew. Or so I thought. He’d later ask why all his sweaters smelled like my perfume…. Whoops. So I wasn’t the sneakiest. So you have 2 options, sneak/steal your BF’s or just bite the bullet and invest in the perfect shade of (Christian) grey cashmere cardigan. Pair it back to a slinky white silk cami, leather jeggings and black booties for fall perfection. Or just steal your BF’s and plead the 5th. Same same.

BLACK & WHITE STRIPED BLOUSE

It’s business and party all in one… much like the mullet JK! Whether it be the oh-so-coveted off-the-shoulder style or the 70’s inspired tie blouse style with that deep v that adds that touch of sexy, the striped blouse is where it’s at. That OTS number has enough sex appeal so i love it played off ripped jeans and casual Adidas sneaks. Tuck that tie blouse style into white skinny jeans with nude strappy heels now and with high-waisted black skinnies and stiletto booties later. Gotta love a blouse that moves like that. Go girl!

SATIN BOMBER JACKET

*pulls out menu * …yes, here is where you have an array to choose from: solid, floral print, embroidered, athletic, quilted, oriental print, metallic, military, abstract print, animal print, branded. i'll stop there. The point is, you just throw them on for instant cool. Keep the rest simple and sexy. Don’t be afraid of a fun/odd tee though…don’t take this look too seriously…it’s that effortlessly cool thing, just go with it.

CONVERSE ALL-STARS

You know em, you love em. The Converse classic that pairs perfectly with dresses for that cool, chic chick look. Into it. Super fresh, lived-in white is somehow beautifully feminine while remaining laid back. And that price tag can’t be beat, we love that Converse likes to stay in the 1920’s;)

ADIDAS STAN SMITH

Adidas you had us at rose gold and animal print. Swoon. No sneaker has quite transitioned from court staple to fashion icon as the classic Stan Smith by Adidas. A cult classic meets pop culture must-have meets fashionista. Well played Adidas, well played.

NIKE

I'm not here to say that the iconic athletic giant invented the sport to street style, but let’s just say they were the first to step out on top fashionistas’ feet. Their simple, clean, black and white styles sported a movement that paired nicely with the leggings spike to make sport chic a thing. I may be biased as I find it my day in, day out look, but try it for yourself and watch heads turn.

GOLDEN GOOSE

I can’t get enough of Golden Goose’s lived-in luxe styles .  From high tops to metallics, these babies are casual cool while whispering luxury. Everyone will ask you about them, trust me. Go on, be the center of attention.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

What ruled the runway? Flowing femininity, white, sheer, bold color and surprisingly a nod to black for the SS17 season, and not just for the evening. But it works! With sheer and flowy it’s BFF, black seamlessly fits into the spring/summer girl gang. She’s lighter, flirtier and a bit more fun. While go-with-the-flow spring was in the air, she stepped out alongside perfectly structured silhouettes and elegant couture details. Precision was another overriding theme. Every detail perfectly placed. Every ripple of flowing silhouette intentional. Tailoring, next level. It was truly a season that wowed and delighted. We’ve highlighted a small range of points of view to capture the breath of the season.  And they truly took our breath away. Is it spring yet?

JONATHAN SIMKHAI

He may not be a household name but you will want every single one of his designs hanging in your house asap. He perfectly mates a structured silhouette with dramatic feminine details that wow while enhancing the beauty of the woman without overwhelming her. While dramatic, his designs remain slim and oh so chic. While high couture walking the runway, we somehow feel like wearing one walking for coffee. Effortlessly glamorous while couture at its finest, each one is a work of art and makes you smile. Thank you Jonathan. More, please.

OSCAR DE LE RENTA

Well Oscar literally took our breath away. If you aren’t a romantic, you are now. And every season. The fashion house does it again. At the intersection of delicately, structured detailing and gentle flowing femininity you’ll find the beautiful dichotomy that only the house of Oscar masters. Ever elegant, forever loved.

ALEXANDER WANG

Clean lines are his thing. Precision yet relaxed tailoring, he’s all over it. Proportion play, he invented it. The man knows his playbook, he just re-writes it, we never see it coming and it’s genius Every. Single. Time. The best part… you will see his influence play out in high fashion to everyday play right down to influencing that sport street trend. You bet the big players like Nike and Adidas have their sketchbooks out and fashionistas everywhere are spinning their brains on how to twist his signature spin into their wardrobes stat. Don’t be surprised if you see lace, pleated detailing and sheer dot fabrications creep in on your street sport style. He crosses all barriers. Living legend. Take that bow, sir.

DEREK LAM

Clean lines, dramatic yet understated silhouettes, impeccable tailoring and draping… Derek Lam brought his signature and we are signing up. How can something be so show-stopping yet so quiet all once? This is the magic of the beautiful yet billowing yet streamlined style of Derek Lam. Astounding.

RALPH LAUREN

Well he brought back the 90’s but we’re not talking about the fashion… the models. Damn girls, you look fine!  He also gave a wink and nod (whassup) the the 90’s trend with leather chokers that mimicked RL’s signature western belts. We see you Ralph.  But don’t worry, he brought his arsenal of the classic RL style, played rugged accessories off feminine silhouettes, cruised into urban cowboy with the infusion of black and sequins, topped off models with low-brimmed cowboy hats and wowed our eyes with bold color against unexpected western accessories. Then to top it all off, the looks walked from the runway straight into stores. Pure. Genius. He, along with designers Tom Ford and Tommy Hilfiger, have switched to the see-now-buy-now format.. the in-season runway show. And we love it. Nothing is worse than pining over fashions for 6 months. And we bet the wallets were wide open!

J. MENDEL

Texture play, exquisite materials and impeccable craftsmanship made for some jaw-dropping moments at the Gilles Mendel show. His show is like a beautifully composed and executed orchestral arrangement, hitting all notes in the range and working harmoniously. It’s that song you never want to end. Each verse carrying you away. Each piece was so beautiful and unique yet somehow spoke as one. Magical.

MICHAEL KORS COLLECTION

Kors’ gave his signature feminine/masculine plot line a twist with a touch of the 80’s…. “they were women who were provocative, very flirty, but also in control.” Welp, we just want to marry that sentence. Kors certainly understands the duality of women and well, for that, we love him…. and his collection. He plays his signature dichotomy beautifully with elements of feminine flirty to raw power executed in upbeat colors.

And in case you haven’t had enough, it’s London Fashion Week and it always thrills. *cancels work for the next week*
